The three-part edition contains all of Bach's arrangements of compositions by others. The arrangements were probably created around 1713/1714 on behalf of Prince Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar. The concert arrangements bear witness to Bach's intensive preoccupation with the then new Italian concert art and its leading exponent, Antonio Vivaldi.
