Anna Butterworth studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and at Nottingham University. She lectured at what is now Napier University, Edinburgh, for 35 years, becoming Head of School in 2000. For many years she was Head of Academic Studies, responsible for much of the organization of and teaching on the BMus [Hons] degree course. She is also well-known as a teacher, examiner, adjudicator and lecturer in the UK and abroad. Harmony in Practice has sold extensively worldwide, as has her textbook Stylistic Harmony [OUP , 1992].
